MM SCI-FI FANTASY MASHUPS 18+
I am fascinated by our efforts to explore outer space—and although I do support such endeavors, I believe that as humans, our greatest responsibility as a species is to ourselves and to discover who we are and to grow to allow each other an equal space under the sun before we are fundamentally ready to begin our trek to the stars.
I am concerned that human behavior predicts that the race to reach the stars is not to understand better or know more but to conquer and make it our property.
This brings me to Atlantis, Egypt, lost civilizations, and ultimately new dystopian civilizations that capture our imaginations and invades our dreams and thus pushing the boundaries of what was and what could be. This is where my imagination runs havoc and my characters fall in love. I love juggling between believing what we were told and what we imagine the reality of it all should be.
Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Paranormal Romance stoke the flame of hope, inquisitiveness, and wonder.
I say never stop dreaming. Always enquire, question, and explore to make the unimaginable a reality. Move forward and never accept the status quo blindly.
As a child, I always had my nose in encyclopedias. (That was before the internet and Google.) I would read them for fun and had hoped to discover the secret to making my father’s car run on water, by adding a little pill, like Canderel, that made his coffee taste sweet. In my young mind, I thought if I could make the water taste like petrol, then it should work like petrol. I guess my fascination with alternative energies and sound waves stems from that.
I mention in Cian’s Song using electrical energy generated by sound energy. Principles related to sound waves and energy production have been understood for a long time. Despite this, the technology to turn sound energy into electricity is thought to be in its early stages. And I wonder why?
However, as scientists and technicians investigate and improve the technologies involved in sound-generated electricity, sound energy may produce mass electricity one day. Hopefully soon.
If that sounds like a pipe dream, remember solar and wind power were once beyond our grasp, too.

1. How did you come up with the pen name Kashel Char, and how does it relate to your love for Game of Thrones?
I wanted a strong unforgettable pen name like Castle Black, it was among the first things to appear on the all-time great show, Game Of Thrones.
2. Can you explain how Game of Thrones has influenced your writing and storytelling?
The brutality, the fantasy, and the taboo of true human nature are woven into separate and distinctive families or rulers of kingdoms. Their own world is filled with their unique drama which creates plotlines and subplot lines emergent of a magnificent new world. The imagination of George RR Martin astounds me.
3. What drew you to the genre of speculative male/male sci-fi fantasy and paranormal romance, and how does your medical background inform your sci-fi writing?
The age-old questions of humans, like who are we, where do we come from, and what is the purpose of it all drove me to create a point in time where history is blurry and make it blend with reality. If there was an Atlantis how it came into existence and who lived in this city? Scientists and soldiers of course.
4. How have your global experiences and healthcare career influenced the themes and settings in your novels?
· Longevity based on the SIRT_6 whale gene manipulation.
· Cryogenics surround the freezing and unfreezing of humans.
· Human Artificial Wombs.
· Sci-fi labs and transportation vehicles and the science of ion thrusters, the working mechanisms
· Sound Energy harvested to create electricity.
5. Can you discuss the balance between sensuality and action in your stories and what you hope readers take away from them?
I don’t write according to a recipe. I try to make it happen on its own time and in the weirdest places. As close to reality as possible. I think sensuality is overrated, yeah there is the looking forward, the whisper, and the anticipation, but this is sci-fi and not romance. My characters don’t have time to be mushy because the story moves too fast to stand still and wonder if he wants to stick it in or not. When the opportunity reveals itself, they better do it or end up with blue balls.
6. How do you use speculative fiction to explore questions about humanity's origins and future, and why is this important to you?
I just ask, where did the stories we were taught as children originate and what would the alternative look like? For example Ish, my main character is an Anunnaki alien who brings an apple to Earth, gets drunk, and messes up the timeline so badly that humans use that tablet, his diary as scriptures.
7. Why is LGBTQ+ representation significant in your work, and how does it contribute to your story themes?
I write sci-fi because gender issues are not an issue. It is non-existent and I hope to give readers a glimpse of a world without the old-world religion and rules and discrimination. That it is possible to live in harmony by respecting and hearing anyone and everyone.
8. What inspired your "New Beginnings Trilogy," and what do you want readers to experience when they read it?
The Characters, Place, and Time, in Men of Phoenix written by Stefan Pride, inspired me to wonder and write what it would look like when the world ended and what if it wasn’t the end, but the beginning of it all, the floods, the Aztecs and Atlantis. A New Beginning.
9. What's your creative process for crafting immersive worlds, and how do you maintain consistency across your stories?
It is very difficult for me to finish book three and not go back to book one. That is why my books have original versions and new versions. I constantly update the storyline as it grows.
10. How do you view the role of pushing genre boundaries in your writing, and what challenges and rewards does it bring?
I cross the boundaries so broadly, that I leave a trail of confusion and wonder behind me.
11. What message or feeling do you hope readers take away from your stories, and what can we expect from Kashel Char in the future?
That life is beautiful, and we don’t have to follow the rules to be happy. Question everything and imagine the unimaginable.
12. What was your reaction when you found out that Voraka Magazine is going to feature your book, and what does it mean to you to receive recognition from such a distinguished publication?
I thought it was a scam. Not sure if I’m worthy of any recognition yet.
We'd love to hear from you!
